Tough subjects make for bold design. I created this postcard for an exhibit curated by Shantrelle P. Lewis entitled Sex Crimes Against Black Girls, which confronts the horrific reality of sexual exploitation as confronted by Black girls across the Diaspora. The cover image is a photograph from the Forsaken series by artist Numa Perrier, and the bold splash of red inspired the back design, with its single drop of blood to represent the pain and bloodshed shared by the victims of sexual abuse. I debated against the singular graphicness of it, but in the end, the pieces often design themselves…
